I have been creating digital content for over 5 years, in my own art practice making 2D and 3D animations, and working freelance on a variety of illustrative and graphic projects. In my freelance work, I am confident communicating ideas back and forth, working to fit a client’s specific needs and brief, within a set timeframe. I have worked on adverts and promotional material for social media, producing graphics for websites, illustrations for children’s books, and animations to accompany scripts and soundscapes.
I am proficient in Adobe After Effects, Animate, Character Animator, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro; 3D software Blender and Google SketchUp; and all of Microsoft Office. I create accurate 3D models of sculptures and gallery spaces for planning exhibitions. I produce the sound for my personal animated projects, working with Ableton and content from online sound libraries. During and my time at university, I was a member of The Institute of Making, a multi-disciplinary research club with members from all areas of design, engineering and making. I learnt many skills in fabrication, including producing digital files for use with the laser cutter, CNC router and 3D printers. I have also done some basic coding for Arduino and interactive animations in Processing.
I graduated from Slade School of Fine Art, London, with Distinction in Ba Fine Art, Sculpture and a place on The Dean’s List in 2018. I won the Woon Prize 2018, hosted by Northumbria University and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, and had my work featured in Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2018. Since graduating, my animations have featured in galleries: Baltic39, Newcastle ; DKUK, London ; FoldLab, London ; Gallery North, Newcastle ; and San Mei, London .
I worked on a project for New Writing North, Newcastle, creating an animation to accompany an audio script made by students. It was a fast paced exercise in working to a very tight deadline, generating a 1 minute long animation with multiple characters, scenes, and lip syncing, in just 1 day.
I made an interactive digital gallery featured as part of an online show at skelf.org.uk. I designed the user interface, created GIFs and icons, and compiled them into an animated map for users to navigate through. [available here: www.karachin.co.uk]
I worked as an illustrator for author, Carl Wong, on a series children’s books. The project required working closely with the client to develop an aesthetic and character designs that fit with his vision for the book.
I worked for The Mango Club (Music & Events) creating posters and animations promoting their events, developing and implementing graphics, concepts and designs for their marketing campaign.
I worked with jewellery designer, Ysabel Dyne, creating an animated logo and graphics for her website. We also worked collaboratively illustrating her collection for a concept portfolio.
